Latin Grammys To Stay In Vegas
July 22, 2010 - Latin

By Ayala Ben-Yehuda

Whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas—at least for three years, if you’re the Latin Grammys.

The awards show, which usually tapes in a different city every year, has made Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center its home for 2010, 2011 and 2012, the Latin Recording Academy announced.

The Latin Grammys were held at the venue in 2007 and 2009; since the awards' move to Univision in 2005, the two telecasts from Las Vegas have pulled in the show's highest average viewerships, according to Nielsen. Last year's Latin Grammys averaged 5.8 million viewers in nearly 3.3 million homes, while in 2007 the show averaged over 6 million viewers in 3.4 million homes.

This year’s awards will air live on Univision on Thursday, Nov. 11. Nominations will be announced Sept. 8.

Las Vegas has become an increasingly important venue for Latin music. Vicente Fernandez, Los Tigres del Norte, K-Paz de la Sierra, Jose Jose, Alex Lora, Don Cruz Lizarraga, Banda el Recodo, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Conjunto Primavera, Trini Lopez, Veronica Castro, Juan Gabriel, El Chapo de Sinaloa, and Emilio and Gloria Estefan all have stars on the city’s Walk of Stars.
