Michael McCarty, president of EMI Music Publishing Canada, has announced he is resigning and has accepted another job in the Canadian publishing industry.
McCarty, who had been with EMI and its predecessors, SBK and CBS Songs, for 23 years, made the announcement to staff yesterday (July 2). Industry sources said EMI Music Publishing had been aware of the move for the past month.
"It was not an easy decision," McCarty wrote in an e-mail to staff. "There is rarely a day that goes by when I don't stop to reflect on how lucky I am to be able to pursue my passion for working with great songs and songwriters."
Reached for comment, McCarty would only say he had accepted another job in Canadian publishing that would be announced in coming days. McCarty had signed a new contract with EMI earlier this year and was splitting time between Toronto and New York over the past year.
EMI has not announced a replacement for McCarty and the company is currently conducting a job search to find his successor.
Acts signed to EMI Music Publishing in Canada include Billy Talent, Ian Thornley, Justin Rutledge and Bob Rock.
